Preperation

Preparation seems to be the key to attaining your weight loss goals. I have seen a trend in my failures and it was always brought on by lack of preparation on my part. Going out to eat, missing meals, having nothing in the fridge, and lack of planning my workouts have all been culprits. Here are a few things I have decided to do each week to make sure that these bad habits do not derail me from my goal!

We go out to eat at least 3 times a week. UGH!!! It is REALLY hard to know how many calories are in food that is made by others. And the places that do list calories...I think they lie. No one regulates them to make sure they are telling the truth. I have worked in the hospitality industry and I know those cooks are NOT measuring out how much butter they put on your veggies or cheese on your salad. I have decided to order everything as plain Jane as possible. If I order a salad (which I do most of the time) I am getting as much on the side as possible. That way I can see myself how much goes on. I am also going to  add 2 extra points (weight watchers) to the food I order. That way I will feel pretty sure that I am staying within my points.

I VOW to myself not to miss meals anymore. This week is going pretty good so far. I have decided that each week I will decide what I will have everyday for breakfast and lunch. Each week I will change it up. That way I don't stand in front of the fridge and think "what am I in the mood for"...mmm...grilled cheese and creamy tomato soup. I love to cook so I will cook a different dinner each night and this will help me from getting board with what I am eating. I also make sure I have most of my snacks prepared. I bought a Publix roasted chicken and de-boned and skinned it and put the chicken in the fridge. I also boiled eggs and pre-cut all my veggies. I need it to be easy or I will stray.

Exercise has always been a daily thought to me. This week I planned and wrote down what I will do each day of that week to get my exercise in. Fit camps (AAP), running, biking and yoga are all planned out this week. They are on the schedule and I cannot cancel those appointments. I really think this will help me keep, not only with my long term (month) goal but my short term daily goal.

Let me know some tips. Most of the people I know and I am friends with are really healthy and fit. I need your advice on preparation. I am working on all of this being second nature to me. I seem to always get health advice from the girl eating pizza at the mall or the guy shopping in the Big and Tall section. I need help from people who are living this life style and who are successful at it.

Thanks for your ideas!!!

  1. Many chain restaurants have menus and nutrition info online. While you are working on your goal, only go out to eat where you know what you are eating. Or when you go out, order what you want. They will change food for you....chicken grilled no added oil, salad dressing on the side, ask for veggies steamed, most places are happy to do as you ask. Only frequent places ready to serve your needs. You are important!

I always have hard boiled eggs ready to grab in case I am late...green apple hard boiled egg and a couple of whole grain crackers.
